I woke up beside Knor. He was lounging on the bed, shirtless, munching on a snack, watching the movie still playing in the background.

“How long was I asleep?” I mumbled.

“An hour,” he said. He glanced at me with a wide grin. “Hungry?” he asked.

“What are you eating?” I asked, stretching. I felt a twinge deep in my belly, where he’d been.

“Candied nuts. Would you like some?” he asked. I nodded and held out my hand, but he shook his head. He fed me one instead and slid down onto his side, so we were practically flush. I chewed slowly while he got another from the small bag. After he gave me a second, he followed it up with a kiss. I was sure a virile guy like Knor was ready to go again. But for me it had been a while so my recovery time was a bit longer.

Knor was about to feed me another one, when an alarm started to sound on the ship. He moved fast, hopping up from the bed and getting his clothes on.

“Knor, what is that?” I asked.

“Get dressed. Quickly,” he said in a clipped tone. I didn’t question him until I had my shoes on and he took my hand, pulling me towards the door.

“Knor…what does this alarm mean?” I asked.

“There’s an incoming threat,” he said. We were headed in the direction of the piloting hub.

“Like we’re going to run into a meteor, or there’s another ship out there?” I asked. Knor glanced at me while he got the hub doors open.

“Commander,” Vero called the room to attention. I glanced at a projected display on the view screen and saw one red dot nearing our course. We were nowhere near Bagar-1 yet. Whatever was pursuing us, we had to deal with it on our own.

“Have a seat Aliya,” Knor murmured. I went to one of the extra chairs and strapped in. Knor sat at the control desk with the other pilots.

“Have we identified the threat yet?” Knor asked.

“We’d have to slow down, or they’d have to catch up for us to get a proper scan of the ship,” Vero said.

“Obviously, they wish to catch us. What ship enters another’s warp path if not for one reason?” Knor asked. “Slow, but barely,” he said. I saw no change in the speed the stars moved around us, but I did notice the red dot getting closer on the radar. An image was enlarged on the screen, a clear image of what looked like a spacecraft made for speed. It was a lot smaller than ours.

Vero said something to Knor in native Bagarian tongue, I caught the word Corsov, then put a few phrases I knew together with that. The red dot after us were Corsovian ships. Knor got on the intercom and ordered two men to the rear gun station. He pointed to a couple of the secondary pilots to man the weapons controls on the piloting hub.

“This should be simple. It’s as we’ve all practiced in training flights.
